Aussie man checks in a can of beer on Qantas flight 0 1819

An Australian man successfully checked in a can of beer as his only luggage on a Qantas flight from Melbourne to Perth.

Dean Wicken made headlines around the world after he successfully checked in a can of beer as his only luggage on a domestic flight in Australia.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Mr Wicken confessed that his friend had actually thought of the idea. “My mate works at the airport and we hatched the plan as a laugh – I half didn’t expect it to come out the other end,” he said.

To the delight of Mr Wicken his can of beer was the first to reach the baggage carousel in Perth.

There appears to be no restriction on how small an item can be when it comes to checked baggage on Qantas’ conditions of carriage.

Although Qantas were happy to accommodate Mr Wicken’s unusual request, the airline said it did not encourage other travellers to follow suit.
